The Sanctuary

Miss Alli's has some animals that will stay in our rescue on a permanent basis.  These animals are our sanctuary members for various reasons, but are magnificent animals with an overabundance of love.  We are proud to have them represent our rescue, grateful for their place in our lives, as well as all the lessons on life and love that they have taught us.  We adore them and will remain devoted to their care.

Rocky

Rocky, a Catahoula, was found in the middle of a highway, cut up and bleeding. We took him into our rescue, and in 3yrs had only 1 person look at him.  As a big, black dog he was ignored and overlooked.  After the 2yrs passed, we decided to keep him as an honorary member and official mascot of our rescue, showing the world that big, black dogs are indeed wonderful, too.  Rocky is a superb dog, devoted and extremely loving.  Although found as an undisciplined, spoiled, trouble maker (who gave lots of kisses!), through time he blossomed into a magnificent, beautiful, intelligent, and devoted dog. He is close to perfect! We are so grateful that he fell into our path and into our lives.

China

China is an American Pit Bull Terrier that suffered an injury to her spine.  As a result she was paralyzed from the waist down, but she still had such a fabulous attitude that she kept on living and enjoying life as if nothing ever happened, never giving up and never holding a grudge.  After trying a few different families that didn't work out, we opted to continue to take care of China as our rescue's permanent family member.  She is very happy, loving life & everyone in it, active and now "ataxic" vs. "paralyzed."  She runs and plays more every day, and we believe that one day she'll be able to walk normally again. She can even walk and run some now, and climb up steps when she wants to! It's even hard to catch her sometimes!  Although she will never be perfect and always require assistance, we are committed to her care and love her tremendously.  She is an inspiration and a reminder of what life and love are all about!

Duke

*Duke recently passed and is now at the rainbow bridge.  We miss him dearly but are thankful that he was a part of our lives.*

Sweet Duke came into our rescue battered and broken. Arthritic, aged, a cut eye, and entropian in one eye, 2 blown knees, and with a past of abuse, he somehow still walked in with eyes bright and hopeful. Now receiving good food, medication, plenty of toys, and a lot of love, he's shining and vibrant. Just look at him in his smokin' jacket...what a hunk!  He is the best grandpa imaginable, in a big doggy body!  Duke is a big ball of love, totally irresistible, and we are proud to have him as a part of our family.

Noelle

Noelle is a beautiful black lab that has surpassed the odds.  When she came into our rescue she had cataracts, yet could still see shadows.  Unfortunately, she wasn't a candidate for cataract surgery. Sadly, after many attempts to keep them from getting worse, we had to take her eyes out to rid the pain.  Since her bilateral eye removal, she has been happy and active and feeling much better!  She has a super outlook on life and dwells on loving those around her.  She's an outstanding girl who we are most proud of, and to whom we will forever be grateful for showing us that all it takes is a good attitude and a little love.  If we had half the gumption of our Noelle, nothing would bring us down!  Go Noelle!!

Wilma

Sadly, Wilma passed away on the 20th of January, 2009.  She was a jewel and is missed very much.  We feel blessed that she spent the last year of her life with us.

Wilma is a beautiful 10+ yr old senior Great Pyrenees who was in a high kill shelter with no hope of getting to the adoption floor.  We saw her and knew we had to save her life.  With every orthopedic issue in the book, radial nerve damage with no feeling in her paw, and age against her, she still smiles, plays with the other dogs, and "protects" her family like a true Pyrenees.  She is fearless, determined, and nothing gets her down. She's incredibly strong willed, a fighter, and she never gives up.  We absolutely adore this beautiful girl, and she brings a smile to our face every day.  We only wish we had the same incredible stamina as Wilma.  We are honored to have her as a part of our rescue family, and we love giving her big hugs and kisses, watching her dance, and being slapped by her "disabled and non-working" paw.  There is nobody quite like our Wilma!

Honey

Honey is a beautiful girl who came into rescue heartworm positive and with kennel cough. After treating the kennel cough, we began the first round of heartworm treatment with the hopes of getting her to good health.  Unfortunately, we learned that this sweetie's heart and lungs didn't respond well to the treatment due to the advancement of heartworm disease. As a result, she will have to remain on medication and proceed with a slower and more gentle method of heartworm treatment.  Although she is a strong and determined little girl, her outcome is uncertain. Therefore, we decided to have her remain in our sanctuary where we'll take care of her and give her an overabundance of love. She is a delightful and inspiring girl, and we will do all we can to make sure she's taken care of properly. She continues to smile and remain completely happy, wagging and wanting to play, hugging and kissing everyone, never minding her illness.  In fact, this great attitude is helping her to make baby steps possible, and her health has actually improved!  We are so proud of her and continue to pray for her 100% recovery. This is the sweetest Honey to ever exist!

Anna

Anna is a stunning Great Pyrenees that came to us after being tied up to a fence and abandoned. She was incredibly afraid, malnourished and had a poor coat. We also later found out that she was full of buckshot from someone being incredibly cruel to her. No wonder she's so terrified of the human race! We've worked with her ever since her arrival, and she's really come out of her shell.  However, she still has tremendous fear of people, so she has become a part of our Sanctuary. Anna has blossomed into an incredibly beautiful girl and is devoted to her foster family, giving snuggle hugs and big smiles. We will continue to work with her and will help her learn that there are indeed many good people in the world.  She deserves to live in comfort and love, and that's just what we will provide for her.

Emmy Lu

Emmy Lu is a senior Boston Terrier that is as precious as they come. She sadly ended up in a small, rural shelter, but was fortunately saved by another kind rescuer. We offered to take her for the rescue, due to new city regulations on dog numbers where her rescuer lives, and she immediately fit right in. She might be a senior and have an eye that doesn't allow her to see, but she still has spunk and enjoys a good romp around the yard or basking in the sun. Her favorite spot is the bean bag, which she claimed the night we brought her home, and you can always find her snuggled up on it and taking a nap. She is such a darling girl who is full of personality, and we are proud to have her in our Sanctuary. Miss Sweet, Sweet Emmy Lu!

Rocky's Rules in life:

1. Always enjoy a good nap, for you never know when you might actually have to work for food.

2. Be a good son & remember always tell your mother that you love her, even if she appears busy.

3. Never forget how to give the pitiful look.

4. Always watch out for your little sister.

5. Don't be prejudice. Size & color don't mean anything.

6. Ear cleanings are YUCK!, but remember it allows you to better hear your mom tell you how handsome you are!!

"China's Proverbs"

1. Those who give up, miss out.

2.  Those who judge don't win the prize.

3. Don't be too tired or you will miss the sunshine while you sleep.

4.  Attitude will kill you...or save you. It's all up to you.

5.  One must always enjoy treats...treats are a beautiful thing!

6. One is always cuter with a smile.

"The Dogfather's Laws"

1.  Go ahead and roll with the punches. Just believe, and you will land on a bed of feathers.

2.  Help teach the youngsters that one good treat is worth a week of the pizza buffet.

3.  Welcome others into your life...some will turn out to be moldy dog bones, but some will end up as a fine canned food delicatessen!

4.  A trip to the vet is never fun...but if you act real pitiful the doc will fall in love, and you'll become his favorite.

5.  Good looks and a fit body aren't everything. The way to reel them in is with your smile that first kiss!

Noelle's Knowledge

1.  It can always be worse...so just wag your tail, give hugs & kisses, and it will all work out for the best...believe it!!

2.  Handicap is a word made up by humans.  Humans need to remember that animals don't have "handicap" in their vocabulary, and we never feel defeated!

3.  The king size bed in Mom's bedroom is mine.  I'm a good daughter, though, and let her sleep in it, too. That's the nice thing to do, you know - Always share!

4.  Stand up for what you believe in and never give up.  If you persevere, you will find the support that will walk you through the shadows, into the sunlight.

Wilma's View

1. I'm not old, and I'm not feeble. Don't imply that I am.

2.  Old "Arther Itis" is an ornery little guy, but you know what? I'm bigger than he is, and I'm a Great Pyrenees, so I'll win the fight.

3.  There's nothing better than lying on a soft bed. Well, except for maybe canned food.

4.  You may think I can't move very fast with all of my ailments, but ask Mom who wins the race to the food bowl...me or her? It's all in who wants it more.

5.  Mom said one time that I was an ornery old lady and as cute as a puppy. She can think of me as she wishes...truth is, she adores me no matter what because...well, I'm cute.

I don't ask for much.

 Just a few things:

I don't like doggies sniffing my eye or my nose. I do like doggies, though.

I want canned food with my dry food. No dry only.

I'll share the bean bag with China, but it's really mine.

On occasion, I want to lie in the sun.

That's about it. It's the simple things, really.
